Creating Custom Questions Using Convert to Freeform: Pick Many

February 1, 2017

STORIES

I inadvertently took a month off blogging (and I needed it!), so I decided to come back in full effect by doing a month of screencast Storyline demonstrations. This sounds ambitious to me, but I’ve got a lot of Storyline demos lined up, and I think most of them are going to address a practical need for many e-learning developers, so stay tuned!

Oh! Also! Incase you’re wondering, there will be a smattering of Storyline 2 and Storyline 360 demos throughout the month – I don’t want folks to feel excluded!

The first screencast I want to share is how I create custom questions using convert to freeform. In this video, I’ll be demonstrating how I create a custom pick many interaction, so if you’re interested, check out the video below.

Screencast Monday: Coin Flip Animation in Articulate Storyline

November 21, 2016

So, on Day 1 of DevLearn, I posted a recap, and in that recap, I outlined a coin-flip animation effect that Ron Price of Yukon Learning had showed us in Articulate Storyline. Jeff Kortenbosch had asked for a video demo, so here it is! I’ll also include a recap of the steps:

  • Create the shape you want to animate.
  • Create a transparent rectangle over the shape you created.
  • Select both items and group them.
  • Animate the group to swivel.
  • Enter the group, and move the original shape down the timeline, so the original shape only appears after the majority of swivels have occurred.

Screencast: Using the Object Intersects Trigger in Articulate Storyline 360 #video

November 10, 2016

With the release of Articulate Storyline 360 comes some new triggers, and I know you’ll find a ton of ways of using these triggers, but I thought I would quickly illustrate one way (a very obvious way) that you can employ the When: Object Intersects trigger in Storyline 360.

Make sure you sign up at Sprout E-Learning for news (later this month) about discounts on Articulate Storyline training programs.

Screencast: Crop Existing Characters in Articulate Storyline into a Shape

October 28, 2016

I’m working on a project right now that requires a talking head to pose questions throughout the course, so in my design, I wanted to have the character’s head appear in a circular shape. Most people do this by creating a circular shape and then formatting the shape to have a picture fill, which often times skews the perspective of the image (especially when using a circle as the shape).

This tutorial shows you just how easily you can create this effect, without skewing the image, in Articulate Storyline, using existing characters.

Screencast Monday: Using States in Articulate Storyline to Control Navigation

October 24, 2016

Hey there – it’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a Screencast Monday, so I figured what better way of doing a screencast, but to show you a very functional navigation control effect in Articulate Storyline.

I’m currently working on a project that requires the navigation to be locked down on interactive screens until all slide objects have been interacted with, and the easiest way of doing this for me is by using the states feature in Storyline. There are a few different ways you can do this, so don’t feel forced into using states; this is just my preferred method.

Screencast Monday: Using Variables to Personalize Courses in Storyline

August 15, 2016

This week, I’m showing you just how easily you can personalize courses in Articulate Storyline by using the data entry field and variables. It’s a quick screencast, but it can help take the learning experience of your courses to the next level!
