{"id":1263,"date":"2016-03-22T20:43:16","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T23:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ashleychiasson.com\/blog\/?p=1263"},"modified":"2016-03-22T20:43:16","modified_gmt":"2016-03-22T23:43:16","slug":"e-learning-challenge-117-visual-design-tips-for-cover-slides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashleychiasson.com\/blog\/e-learning-challenge-117-visual-design-tips-for-cover-slides\/","title":{"rendered":"E-Learning Challenge #117 &#8211; Visual Design Tips for Cover Slides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Concept<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The idea behind <a href=\"https:\/\/community.articulate.com\/series\/45\/articles\/cover-slides-elearning\" target=\"_blank\">this challenge<\/a> was to use a custom background, coupled with <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.articulate.com\/rapid-elearning\/heres-a-simple-visual-design-tip\/\" target=\"_blank\">a visual design tip from Tom Kuhlmann<\/a>, that illustrates how to use a visual echo technique in e-learning design.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>The Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smashingmagazine.com\/2016\/03\/freebie-barista-iconset-50-icons-eps-png-svg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Smashing Magazine<\/a> recently posted a freebie download for some super cute barista and coffee lover icons. I downloaded them, but hadn&#8217;t found the opportunity to use them, so they were my muse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I selected one of the icons from the set (the coffee sign), applied some transparency, made it into a background image for the main slide, and then set about creating a tabbed-style interaction on the left-hand side, with the same coffee image (with no transparency) as a logo of sorts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Using several of the other barista icons, I created appropriately labeled tabs, and added layers for each of these items.
